MLB The Show 25 Honors the Legendary Lou Gehrig
June 2nd marks the date that the indomitable Lou Gehrig began his illustrious career as the New York Yankees starting first baseman, culminating in a streak of 2,130 consecutive games played, an MLB record that stood for 56 years. Additionally, June 2nd marks the date that Gehrig passed away due to complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, bringing national and lasting attention to what was a little-known ailment at the time. As a result of Gehrig’s on and off-field efforts, June 2nd is recognized throughout the MLB as Lou Gehrig’s Day.
