Road to the Show – Feedback. Improvements. Repeat.

What’s up everyone! My name is Tony and I’m one of the Sr. Systems Designers at SDS and I’m joined by Nick, our Creative Director. We want to take a few moments to talk about the feedback we’ve been reading about Road to the Show, what it means to us, and most importantly what we’re doing about it.

First and foremost, we wanted to say thank you. We’ve been monitoring and appreciate the feedback and insight from your point of view. We’ve seen some incredibly well written and thought-out posts around RTTS and the game in general so please, keep it coming. This feedback has proven to be invaluable in helping us understand what our players are experiencing at home. So, with that being said, let’s get on with The Show.

We’re listening, investigating, and taking action on the Road to the Show feedback coming out of Early Access. Our goals this year with the changes to the mode and with centralizing the Ballplayer were rooted in our established philosophy that The Show should provide an interwoven harmony of experiences that reward play in as many ways as possible and leave the choices on where to play up to the gamers and their personal preferences. We absolutely want players who only want to play RTTS to be able to feel like they can progress in and enjoy the mode without having to touch anything else. For players who enjoy multiple modes, our hope is that they’ll discover a more interconnected system where everything is feeding into everything else.

Though many future goals of the system won’t be realized for some time, we are taking actions on the following to ensure that RTTS-only players are feeling sufficiently rewarded within that mode alone:

  • We’re fixing an issue where the user isn’t being prompted to create their player when starting RTTS in a future update*.
  • We’re fixing an issue where ballplayers aren’t getting enough progress from RTTS training choices and base gains in a future update.
  • We’re fixing issues where some loadouts do not progress your player as intended in a future update.
  • We’re buffing archetype items overall and will regulate Ballplayer in DD as needed without having to constrain growth in RTTS for non-RTTS reasons in a future update.
  • We’re looking into ways within the RTTS locker-room hub to better surface archetype progression and upgrades acquired.
  • We’re looking into ways of making it clearer that playing DD should be completely optional to progressing your Ballplayer or RTTS advancement. It IS true that playing RTTS is required to maximize the progress of your Ballplayer and while we are interested in any feedback on that moving forward, it is unlikely to change in ’21.

To circle back on the points above, if there is one thing to take away from all of this, it is that a RTTS player should feel like they can freely progress by playing RTTS and only RTTS. Any participation in DD is purely optional and at no point should anyone feel like they need to monetize to progress their RTTS career.

The changes above are only the beginning and we’re going to continue to review feedback, analyze data, and track down any insight we may need to make sure that the experience we’re providing is as solid and in line with the intended design goals as possible.
