San Diego Studio Developer’s Tournament & Esports Update

March 17th, 2023

The San Diego Studio’s Developers Tournament has wrapped in tremendous fashion and we have a new champion! With the release of MLB® The Show™ 23 right around the corner, the San Diego Studio Developer’s Tournament was the perfect way for our hardworking teammates to blow off some steam and showcase their game skills. Thanks to everyone that participated in the tournament, helped to make this tournament a reality, and to all of you for watching.

For 6+ hours, sixteen of the finest virtual athletes that San Diego Studio has to offer faced-off in best 2 out of 3, elimination style match-ups. There were returning favorites from tournaments past, as well as all new participants throwing their hat into the ring for a chance at glory. In the end though, only one could take home the belt.

Congratulations to Kyle B. for an amazing performance in leading his Washington Nationals team to a resounding victory in the San Diego Studio Developer’s Tournament.

Esports Update

Competitive MLB The Show players have more to look forward to than ever this year. MLB The Show 23 players on Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation will be able to sign up for competitive online leaderboard challenges on where they can take home additional prizes and rewards just for playing the game on any platform.

For MLB The Show 23, we’re making some changes to improve the tournaments’ experience. These changes will positively impact all aspects of competing including registration, results reporting, and live broadcasts leading to a better experience for all those that want to participate in and watch our pro series events.

As a result, MLB The Show 23 will be coming to PlayStation Tournaments on PS5 only where players can compete in seamless always-on competitions and win prizes directly from their PS5 consoles. PlayStation Tournaments will streamline the entire competitive experience from registration to prizing. Pro level events will also be moving to PS5 where the total prize pool for the year will be doubled from last year’s Circuit finals to $100,000.
